Accessibility Monitoring for Shopify
Your store changes every week. So does whether everyone can use it.
WHAT THIS IS
Monitoring, not a magic badge
Ecommerce is the top target for web accessibility lawsuits, and the standard those demand letters cite is WCAG. Here is the uncomfortable part: nobody can certify your store lawsuit-proof, and the overlay widgets that claim to do it automatically have been named in those same lawsuits. A widget cannot fix broken markup. It can only paint over it.
What actually reduces risk is finding barriers, fixing them, and being able to show your work. That is what this is: a real audit up front, then a monthly re-check that catches what changed, because on a live Shopify store something always changes. An app update ships broken markup. A theme tweak drops a label. New product images arrive with no alt text.
One-time accessibility fixes decay. Monitoring is the honest version of this service, which is why it is the only version we sell.
What the monthly plan includes
A WCAG 2.2 AA audit of your storefront: automated scanning plus manual review of the things scanners cannot judge, like whether your alt text says anything useful. Every finding ranked by how badly it blocks a real customer.
Every month we re-check the store, including whatever shipped since last time. You get what is new, what regressed, and what got fixed. Not a 90-page PDF, a delta.
Theme code, app widget, or content: each issue is attributed to whoever actually controls it. Most agencies skip this step, which is how merchants end up asked to fix markup they do not own.
Issues in your theme get fixed by us. For retainer clients, that work rides your existing hours rather than a new invoice.
When the barrier lives inside an app we cannot patch, we write the vendor ticket with the exact technical ask, and we follow up until it moves or you have grounds to replace the app.
A quarterly conformance summary plus a maintained accessibility statement on your store. If a demand letter ever arrives, documented ongoing effort is what your attorney will ask for first.
PRICING
Baseline audit $1,500, then $750 a month
The baseline audit is $1,500, same price as our standalone store audit, and the monthly plan is $750 per store after that. No contract theater: it is month to month, and if your store somehow stops changing, you can stop paying us to check it.
Current retainer clients: ask us on your next check-in. There is a good chance we have already run your baseline.
FROM A RECENT AUDIT
What one audit found, and fixed, in a day
Last week we audited a client storefront and found that the product customizer, the purchase path on their bestselling products, could not be operated by keyboard or screen reader at all: unlabeled controls, click-only expanders, and the same app disabled zoom for low-vision shoppers sitewide. That became a vendor ticket with the exact fixes spelled out.
The same audit caught a fake performance hack a previous vendor had buried in the theme: an invisible image injected into the page head to game speed scores, which silently broke the page title on every single page. We removed it the same day and verified the fix live.
Nobody had noticed either issue, because that is the nature of this stuff. It does not throw an error. It just quietly costs you customers.
